Last Thursday, I and few of my colleagues attended the US Business Insurance Awards ceremony in New York City. We are very proud to have been named a finalist for Insurance Consulting Team of the Year for the second year in a row! This year’s dinner was another great evening, with a comedian for a host and seemingly many more in attendance. Sadly, we did not bring home the award this year but remain proud of our selection as a finalist. To be put up on the big screen alongside insurance industry giants is an honor.

Our nomination this year celebrated recent technological advances we’ve made in our policy review and analysis services, something near and dear to me. I’ve been able to observe the development of these innovations firsthand and my clients have greatly benefited from these new “toys”. I first worked on a policy review at KCIC in 2004, and I’m happy to say we’ve come a very long way! The past two years in particular have included the creation of a database of common policy forms, customizable dashboard-style reporting, improvements to our on-demand coverage charts colored-coded by provision, and a remarkable number of internal process improvements to organize and expedite the reviewing and capturing of language and data across hundreds of policies. I hope to share more of these insights and advancements on our Risky Business blog in the coming months.

One aspect I really appreciate about these awards is the emphasis on teamwork. The award is not for the best product or service, though those factors certainly come into play, but for the best team working together on that product. Collaboration is part of KCIC’s core values and something I’ve always enjoined about working at here. Our policy review and analysis service, like most of our services, has been iterated and improved upon many different times by many different people across many years. No one person can lay claim to the service’s successes. This allows us to be free to acknowledge where we can innovate without managing egos.

Looking ahead to next year, I’m hoping third time’s the charm and KCIC will bring home the 2020 Insurance Consulting Team of Year honor. We remain passionately committed to delivering transformational solutions to our clients and I expect we will have plenty more to be proud of a celebrate next year!
